Back to it!

So…looks I’m back at Slimming World after ‘yo-yoing’ for around two years!

Weight update – now 14st 6lbs (I’ve already lost 8lbs over the last week and a half so what I’ve already done over the last fortnight has been working.

Food I’ve cooked includes a SW Chicken Saag, Cajun Chicken, Turkey Curry, Ham Arabbiatta Pasta, the SW Fry-Up and loads more!

Really enjoying cooking up some healthy delights again! Watch this space…

Today’s Food and Drink…Monday 24th September ’12

Back to reality after a chilled out weekend (mostly cooking) with a long, hard day at the office. However, still managed to stay on plan. Also managed to resist the buffet lunch in the office of sandwiches, scotch eggs, sausages and cakes. Instead, I opted for the chopped melon, pineapple and plums to get my superfree up. =)

I’ve had 7 Syns today, allowing a Syn for the bourguigon pie I made for lunch and 6 syns for a curly wurly in the car on my long drive home. My Healthy Extra A was again some semi-skimmed milk and my Healthy Extra B was a pair of Weetabix.

Breakfast – Weetabix with milk and chopped banana.

Lunch – Beef Bourguignon Pie (made with a topping of smash and yesterday’s leftovers). Melon and grapes with a Muller Light.

Dinner – Lean pork, kidney bean and mushroom stew/casserole with rice. Pineapple and Passionfruit for afters.

Snacks – Curly Wurly

Drinks – Water, Green Tea and 1x Diet Lager Shandy (0% Alcohol)

Got a relative over for dinner tomorrow so have cooked up a really tasty Beef Dhansak tonight which can be warmed through when back from work tomorrow. Looking forward to eating it already! =)

Today’s Food and Drink…Sunday 23rd September ’12

Today’s been a pretty good day, I even had the time and motivation to go for a run. I’ve also been in the kitchen for a big part of the day, just pottering and cooking up a storm!

In total, I’ve had 7 Syns. My Healthy Extra A was some semi-skimmed milk and my Healthy Extra B was a pair of Weetabix.

Breakfast – Lean bacon and baked bean omelette and some cherry tomatoes

Lunch/Pre Run Snack – Breakfast kept me going for a while but I managed to eat a pair of Weetabix with some semi-skimmed milk and chopped banana

Dinner – Beef Bourguignon (from this month’s magazine) with Colcannon Mash and Green Beans. Magic Pancakes with Madarin Muller Light and chopped pineapple for afters (6 syns as oats not used for HEB).

Snacks –None

Drinks – Water and Green Tea

Surprisingly had enough Bourguignon left over so I made a small pie with it and some smash for tomorrow’s lunch at work!

Magic Pancakes!

I tried magic pancakes for the first time today, they’re very easy to cook, take only a few minutes and taste pretty good.

A lot of SW slimmers soak the oats in the muller light overnight but I didn’t see the need.

Ingredients

  • Oatso simple sachet or 35g plain oats
  • Muller Light (any flavour – most people use vanilla)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp of sweetener
  • Fry Light

Method

  1. Tip oats and sweetener into Muller Light and mix well
  2. Break eggs into mixture and mix well to a batter
  3. Spoon three dollops of batter into a medium hot pan sprayed with fry light and flatten slightly to pancake shape
  4. Allow first side of pancakes to cook for a few minutes and turn
  5. Allow second side to cook for a few minutes too
  6. Put first batch to one side and cook second batch of three
  7. Serve with chopped fresh fruit or berries and a topping of another muller light.

This recipe makes about 6 pancakes and could also make savoury pancakes if no sweetener was added.

Allow 6 syns for oats if not used as a Healthy Extra B choice. Apparently, these pancakes make a great breakfast!

Today’s food and drink…Saturday 22nd September ’12

Today, I had a long overdue lie-in so missed breakfast (not ideal for weight loss I know) but have been good all day otherwise.

In total, I’ve had 10 1/2 Syns. I didn’t use my Healthy Extra A allowance but Healthy Extra B was a wholemeal pitta bread.

Breakfast – In the land of nod! Zzzzzz…

Lunch – Wholemeal Pitta with a smear of EL Philadelphia (1 1/2 Syns), Bacon (trimmed of fat) with chopped tomatoes and baby leaf spinach. Washed down with some green and peppermint tea. Also ate a banana.

Dinner – Honey-glazed pork with butternut squash, potato, red pepper and spring onion mash, corn on the cob (with a smear of Philly EL – 1 1/2 Syns) and baby leaf spinach (1 1/2 syns per serving of recipe) [Recipe from Extra Easy Cookbook]. Dessert was mango, pineapple and melon with mandarin muller light.

Snacks – 1 x Curly Wurly (6 Syns)

Drinks – Water, Green and Peppermint Iced Tea, Diet Lager Shandy (0% Alcohol)

Highly recommend the honey-glazed pork – yum!

9 Bananas and a Lemon!

So, I joined a SW group on 12th September and was really impressed by the friendliness of the group, the willingness of the consultant and importantly, the weight losses that my fellow members were achieving/had achieved; my consultant, Laurel, lost 5 stone before she became a consultant for SW. My goal was set at a loss of 2 stone, hopefully by my holiday with my girfriend, Sophie, on December 9th.

I didn’t find the first week too difficult as I was brimming with enthusiasm and I enjoy cooking using fresh ingredients anyway. Sunday was probably the hardest day, when we had family round for a roast dinner. I avoided the pre-dinner nibbles, the beers, the wine and the triple-chocolate cheesecake for afters, and went to bed feeling proud! One thing I would advise is to take the time to read the SW pack and plan your meals. I found myself making up meals ‘off-the-cuff’ and all too often, I could’ve taken the easy option and bought the usual Sainsbury’s meal deal sarnie from just up the road from my office. Without willpower, if you don’t have a meal plan and ready-prepared SW-friendly meals, it’s all-too-easy to eat the wrong thing.

Anyway, just last Wednesday, I had my first weigh in, I was hoping for around 4lbs as I’d stuck to the plan and went swimming twice in the week as well as making a conscious effort to be more active in my lunch hour. I lost 3lbs! I was disheartened at first as my friend who I also started with the previous week, lost a whopping 6lbs, just 1lb off half a stone. However, my auntie said to weigh out what I’d lost to put it into perspective – I’d lost the weight of 9 bananas and a lemon! This made me feel a lot better about my loss and spurred me on to give it another good shot in the coming week! Next target – to lose 4lbs and get my half stone award at the next weigh-in!

Hello!

Hi!

Thanks for visiting my blog.

I’m James, 22, from Hereford and I’ve recently joined Slimming World in a attempt to lose a few pounds, 28 of the little blighters to be precise!

I’ve always been one to read Men’s Health magazine in envy and was always known as the fat kid at school. Although getting taller over the years has undoubtedly help put things in proportion, I’ve still made the decision to try and shape up, get fitter and get leaner. Once I’ve lost the weight (and fat) that I’d like to lose, I’ll then work on putting pounds back on, although in muscle – not fat!

One thing that hasn’t always helped with my weight is that I am a self-confessed foodie and carnivore. If I’m not eating food, I’m more often than not, thinking about it, reading about it, cooking it or watching it be cooked on the TV (I’m a big Hairy Bikers fan!).

My girlfriend lost two and a half stone on SW and also my sister and auntie have both lost weight on the plan – SW market themselves as a lifestyle change, not a diet.

I’ve never had an overly bad diet, I’ve always been handy in the kitchen, however I do like my chocolate, food like Cornish Pasties, and puddings etc. I’m also partial to the odd beer or cider and have an office job, meaning I’m not the most active of people throughout the day.

I’ve chosen to go to Slimming World as the recipes and theory behind it all looks the most like it could be followed long term, I know it can work, it doesn’t involve calorie counting, and (with a little thought) there’s no reason why you can’t eat the foods you’ve always enjoyed. Basically, it involves good, wholesome, fresh home cooking; and for when you fancy a chocolate bar or something similar, making sure you appreciate what effect that can have on your waistline, allowing you to make an informed decision as to whether you actually want it or not!
This blog will act as a food diary, meal planner, recipe book and a place where I’ll post about all the food that passes my lips. I’ll also update viewers on my weight and the highs (and potentially lows) of getting to grips with a new way of eating/living.

Once again, thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy my blog!

Best wishes;

James

Soon-to-be Slim Jim!
